State College Blues Society

Mark Hummel is kicking off his Harmonica Blowout tour in the Southwest but has 2 (count em, 2!!) dates in Pennsylvania …. only a couple of hrs from Happy Valley!

• March 8: Sellersville, Pennsylvania, Sellersville Theatre 1894 w/Steve Guyger
• March 10: Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Chameleon Club Winter Blues Fest

Check out the Rolling Fork Revue featuring Johnny Dyer, Rusty Zinn, and Mark Hummel & The Blues Survivors (Bob Welsh on piano and guitar, Marty Dodson on drums, Steve Wolf on bass) and will be joined by Charlie Musselwhite and Kim Wilson.

The State Theatre has announced the rescheduling of Shemekia Copeland’s gig.  I think there are still tix available call the Box Office at (814)-272-0606.

Playing at Moondog’s, Thackery is a veteran — one of the original Nighthawks — and great fun in concert.

Mavis, of the Staple Singers Fame (way back when…), will be at the State Theatre, tickets are still available here, for $37.50. Ms. Staples began singing in the ’50’s and continues to be a force in gospel and soul (if not blues-proper). Until recently, she was being recorded by Alligator Records (a very traditional blues label) connecting gospels roots firmly to the blues!

Her newest release, on the Anti- label (which, I think, is part of Epitaph Records) is the 2007 We’ll Never Turn Back.

The Columbus Blues Alliance Presents: The 12th Annual Traditional Acoustic Blues Festival

John Hammond is the lead act (10:30pm), but, there are 8 other acts (and a late night jam sesison — apparently fairly (in)famous in Columbus!).

Music starts at 3:30pm and lasts until 2am, they suggest getting a room!
